Master Classes, Lectures, & Workshops ~


Master Works ~
Classes, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and/or symposiums are open in a variety of disciplines. These opportunities are usually in connection with an artist or company being presented at Ruth Eckerd Hall or in residency at the Institute. Intersession Workshops ~

Preparatory Division students who are high school sophomores and above may choose to enrich their training with the following workshops. Each student will receive two free skill-building workshops for each track in which he or she is enrolled. Additional workshops may be attended for $50.00 each, which includes instructional materials and refreshments. Advance enrollment required. Enroll through the Registrar's office (727)712-2706.

Audition Technique: For Singers and Actors
Date and Time: Wednesday, September 3, 5:00–9:00 pm
Panel: Ian Beck, Edvard Crader, Julia Flood, Barry Hamilton

As preparation for college scholarships, college entrance, theater auditions or personal growth, this workshop offers each participant an edge for success. It will be informative (providing tips on successful auditioning techniques) as well as practical (offering singers and actors an opportunity to do a mock audition). Get an inside track on directors’ thoughts. Are you someone they would cast? If not, learn how to improve your approach. Come prepared with head shot, resume and memorized audition material:
• Musical Theater: one monologue, one song
• Drama: two contrasting monologues
• Vocal: two contrasting songs

Alexander Technique I
Workshop limited to 10 participants
Date and Time: Wednesday, September 10, 5:00–9:00 pm
Instructors: Ian Beck, Edvard Crader
This workshop will provide students with the foundation of the Alexander Technique. Students will bring prepared monologues or vocal solos, and will learn how to apply the techniques of the Alexander Technique to their art form.

College Exploration
Date and Time: December break, date TBA, 5:00–9:00 pm

Parents and students are welcome to join our panel of staff members, college administrators and student alumni who bring personal reflection on the college process and how to find a school that is the perfect match for you.


Mainstage Connections~

Join us before the show for a "behind-the-scenes" lecture by artists, directors and technicians. Discover more about the performance or art form before the curtain goes up! Pre-show lectures times and dates vary per season. Tickets are available for an additional $3.50 when purchased with a ticket to the performance. Lecture Only $10 per person.

 

Opera Lecture Series~
The Pinellas Opera League, in partnership with The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute, presents a lecture series each season focusing on various opera topics. Individual tickets are $5.00 per person or purchase a season package of all six lectures for $25.00. Open to ages 19 and up.
